WBO super bantam weight champion Nonito Donaire (28-1 18KO’s) seems to be the most sought out fighter in his new division.

Last night, Abner Mares (24-0-1 13KOs) won the vacant WBC super bantamweight title after outpointing former flyweight champion Eric Morel (46-3 23KOs) in a fight were the veteran refused to give in. The fight was held at a catch weight of 12 pounds and was for the title vacated by Toshiaki Nishioka, who chose to vacate due to him not defending his belt in a 6 month time period.

Also on last night’s card was WBA bantamweight champion Anselmo Moreno, who easily defeated challenger David De La Mora in 9 rounds. After his victory, he stated in his post fight interview that he’d like to face Nonito Donaire if possible. When asked if Mares and Donaire moving up was a plan to avoid him, he replied in a classy fashion saying he didn’t know and can’t really say.

Nonito Donaire apparently won’t be returning on Top Rank’s July 14 show at Cowboys Stadium, which will be headlined by Juan Manuel Marquez, and instead may be back on July 21, according to Ronnie Nathanielsz, who spoke with Bob Arum about potential opponents.

The first name is Cristian Mijares, who was already named as the probable opponent back in February. Mijares (44-6-2, 20 KO) has a fight on Saturday against Eddy Julio (13-3-1, 11 KO), which figures to be a win for the Mexican veteran and a final tune-up for the Donaire bout, if that is still the Top Rank plan.

World bantamweight champion Anselmo Moreno (32-1-1, 11 KO’s) is reportedly interested in moving up in weight to take on WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (28-1, 18 KO’s), according to boxing news from RingTV. Moreno recently easily beat Vic Darchinyan by a 12 round unanimous decision and is now looking to pick up Donaire.

Moreno had to see how vulnerable Donaire looked in struggling to a 12 round decision win over Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. last February. Donaire took a pounding in that fight and looked like he had been beaten with stick. Donaire’s face was marked everywhere he just looked like he’d worked over.

During his rise in the bantamweight division for Abner Mares, it was all about becoming the first home-grown fighter in the Golden Boy Promotions stable to win a championship.

Mares accomplished that, but had begun to already outgrow the division by the time his first fight with then-champion Joseph King Kong Agbeko rolled around. The four-month delay in their Showtime Bantamweight Tourney finals matchup meant that a win and maybe one defense was all that Mares would squeeze out before moving on.

Now that he has grown into the 122 lb. division, Mares is ready to hit the ground running. His first fight in his new weight class comes with a vacant title at stake, as Mares takes on former flyweight titlist Eric Morel this Saturday evening at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas.

Following the after math of Orlando Salido’s second victory over Juan Manuel Lopez, the Mexican’s name has been mentioned as a possible opponent for Filipino boxer Nonito Donaire.

This writer says that a bout between Salido and Donaire would heavly favor the larger Mexican pressure fighter, but I have been wrong before.

Regardless of my opinion, a bout seems highly unlikely.

The Latino Boxing Examiner was informed by a member of Salido’s team that he is looking to move from featherweight to the super featherweight division limit of 130 pounds.

This is my first time writing an article. I am on my winter break and I made a commitment to myself that I would write a “blog” of my thoughts in the world of boxing. As we all know, Nonito Donaire will be fighting Wilfredo Vasquez Jr. on February 4, 2012. This could be either an entertaining fight or a lop sided boring one, if it can go pass the “feel-out” stage (my little saying for rounds 1-3 or 4).

Donaire, a quick, with decent power boxer, can fight on the outside and use his speed to keep his opponent at bay. Vasquez Jr., a relatively new member of the boxing world who can counter punch if his opponent misses and also slug it out on the inside if the situation arises. Both fighters have skills that they can use to their advantage. But how could this fight turn out?

Nonito Donaire can’t hide his feelings last Thursday that his fight against Omar Narvaez will definitely be his last weight class. Donaire has been dominating the bantamweight division for a long time and he feels that it’s time to move up to another weight class.

“Im ready to go to war, that’s my mindest,” said Donaire. The undefeated Argentinean native Narvaez would probably be his last challenge facing him at the 118 pound weight class.

If Pacquiao was wearing yellow gloves in support for poverty this time around Donaire is planning to wear pink gloves in support for the breast cancer awareness program. Donaire’s support for breast cancer inspired him not because he has immediate family members suffering from the disease but many friends who have struggled with the illness. If Donaire should push through with the idea he would be the first professional boxer to do so.

Promoted by none other than Top Rank Promotions, Donaire vs Narvaez will face it off at the WaMu Theater in Madison Square Garden. This would also be the first time for Donaire having a bout in New York. Donaire a native of General Santos City, Philippines is currently residing at the Bay Area of San Leandro, California. Donaire has an impressive nine-year victory with a flawless 25-bout winning streak that includes a variety of belts and the most famous of which by knocking out Vic Darchinyan.
